Richard Anuszkiewicz Op Art By Lucy Williams
RICHARD ANUSZKIEWICZ • Born in 1930 and is still living • Switched art styles many times, but is famous for his optical art • Was the student of Josef Albers at Yale University.
“Color is my subject matter and it’s performance is my painting.” -Richard Anuszkiewicz
His Art • Richard Anuszkiewicz worked with color to trick the eye • He also designed silver, made organic abstract works, sculpted, and painted wooden cubes.
“People thought that I always wanted to shock the eye, I didn’t want to shock the eye. I wanted to use colors together that had never been used together before.I’m still doing what I was doing, but in greater depth… I’ve freed such explorations from subject matter and discovered greater freedom in non-objective art.” -Richard Anuszkiewicz
