ACPM Mission Statement As the leader for the specialty of Preventive Medicine and physicians dedicated to prevention, ACPM improves the health of individuals and populations through evidence-based health promotion, disease prevention, and systems-based approaches to improving health and health care.
ACPM Strategic Goals – Nov. 2011 • Promote the specialty of Preventive Medicine and Preventive Medicine physicians to assure an appropriate supply and demand of properly trained physicians to deliver effective and efficient health and health care. • Promote the advancement of scientific knowledge in preventive medicine and establish ACPM as the recognized leader for professional, multi-disciplinary, and public education, collaboration and communication in the areas of preventive medicine and public health.
ACPM Strategic Goals – Nov. 2011 • Enhance member value by serving as the primary source for members to meet their professional needs, including but not limited to CME, MOC, MOL, career development and practice tools. • Maintain and enhance the institutional stature and credibility of ACPM, professionally, financially, and politically, in order to maximally achieve its mission and goals.
Strategic Objectives Goal 1: Assure adequate supply and demand of PM docs Secure stable funding source for PMR training through advocacy in legislative and executive branches. Enhance standing of PM among ABMS-certified specialties through GME advocacy and medical student outreach. Promote PM and PM specialists as experts in systems-based and population-based medicine among organized medicine, employers, and national policy making bodies. Promote and advance population medicine practice in context of today’s state regulatory environment to assure full, unrestricted licensure for PM physicians.
Strategic Objectives Goal 2: Establish ACPM as recognized leader in preventive medicine and public health Inform and engage consumers in health promotion and wellness, leveraging recognition and stature of ACPM. Optimize delivery of evidence-based clinical preventive services, including competencies in lifestyle medicine. Advance health systems improvement through prevention and systems-based delivery innovations. Improve employer, organizational and individual health performance and productivity. Provide physician voice for social determinants, promote community linkages, and reduce patients’ and community risk.
Strategic Objectives Goal 3: Enhance member value by meeting professional needs (CME, MOC, practice tools). Provide GME, CME, MOC, and MOL opportunities for members to improve competencies, meet credentialing reqts Increase networking opportunities through in-person interaction, social media, and other communication modes Create and deliver practice tools, resources, and quality improvement supports to meet the practice needs
Strategic Objectives Goal 4: Maintain and enhance institutional stature and credibility of ACPM Create long-term, sustainable business plan to assure adequate and reliable revenue streams. Assure organizational effectiveness through strong operations, staff, internal policies, and IT system. Set standard and assure highest level of ethics and professionalism for organization and members.
Status and Next Steps Identifying action steps, performance measures, accountable entities, deliverables, and resource needs (committees, staff, leaders) Implementation plan complete and approved by Board of Regents (June 2012) Governance, staff, and budget alignment
