Microsoft Excel spreadsheets offer an effective means to aid CRF developers in this process. Creating caDSR data elements and forms one at a time is tedious, error prone, taking as long as 2-3 hours per CRF question. In contrast, the cancerGrid’s cgMDR Microsoft Excel addin has proven effective in insertion existing content directly into spreadsheets, capturing detailed information, speeding review and preparation for registration. The completed spreadsheet could be transformed for use with caDSR SIW/UML Loader to further streamline the review and registration process, organizing the content within the caDSR for easier recall and reuse. Excel Addin was tested as replacement for existing manual processes. Insert and Create New Data Element were tested. An XMI file representing a partial CRF was manually created in EA simulating Excel transformation, reviewed using SIW and loaded into caDSR using UML Loader. Noted requirements for cgMDR and SIW/UML Loader modifications. Conclusions cgMDR Excel Addin effectively leverages CDE metadata to streamline, simply and improve accuracy throughout mapping and registration with little or no ISO/IEC 11179 training required. Easy to use, adding CDE details into the spreadsheet enhances reviewer experience providing a solid basis for caDSR batch loading. Eliminating the use of multiple tools, error prone cut and paste cgMDR reduces the time to research, curate and load new CDEs and CRFs. Enhancements to cgMDR and SIW to leverage additional types of caDSR content, use of classifications to pre-organize CDEs into CRFs and processing by SIW/UML Loader will eliminate redundant manual effort. The new process and tooling could be used by communities with similar requirements for CDE and forms registration such asNAACCR, NMDP, COG, Cancer Family Registry. cgMDR Forms Designer We evaluated cgMDR forms designer for forms development and rendering. It appears viable as a distributed, lightweight forms generation tool to compliment caDSR. The forms designer leverages registered metadata, XML documents and XML schema from which basic XForms, JSF and InfoPath forms can also be generated. The approach is used to provide forms for cgMDR. Default rendering components could be registered alongside CDEs for later reuse. Forms generation uml profile eap ->xmi -> xml config Further information Please contact ncicb@mail.nih.gov .
