These workshops are designed for . . . • A culture of participation, engagement and collaboration • A feel that is open, welcoming, upbeat and stimulating • A structure that is easy to facilitate • A process in which it’s easy to participate • An outcome that is easy to record and integrate • A variety of settings, group sizes and demographics (including language and literacy)
Invitation Strategy • Try to involve a diverse group of people who represent the future of the Church • Try to involve people who will be active in the Church 10 years from now. • Try to involve people who are opinion leaders and influencers (whether or not they hold official positions). • Try to involve people who are currently active in the Church, as well as those who are less active. • Offer to do sessions for groups that are already meeting for another purpose. • Combine sessions with social events or other gatherings Suggestion for Invitation Dear (Friend, Colleague, Church Member, etc.) We are very interested in hearing your ideas about the future of the Episcopal Church. Last year’s General Convention chartered a Task force to Reimagine the Episcopal Church. This Fall, members of the Taskforce are trying to hear from as many Church members as possible. We are holding a (1-hour/2-hour) session on (day and date) at (time) at (location). I would be pleased if you could join us and the conversation about the future of our church. The Facilitator’s Role • Create a comfortable, welcoming environment. • Encourage people to tell their stories and share their experiences • Listen with appreciation (and no judgment) • Provide just enough structure to help people feel secure. • Don’t lecture, explain, argue, rebut, revise or otherwise get in the way of people expressing their true feelings. • Help people write legibly on the table templates. • Gather all the templates from the tables and send them to the Taskforce

HOLD ON and LET GO In all change, moving forward means letting go of some things that were important in the past. It also means holding on to a few things that will be important in the future. What should The Church hold on to? What should The Church let go?
