How do you get to where you want to go? • Academics • Grades are important all 4 years of high school • Talk to your high school guidance counselor • Financial Aid • Athletic Scholarships-very limited • Academic Scholarships-limited • Financial Aid Packages-calculated differently at each institution
Your Recruiting Process • Sophomore-Junior • Start researching • Be aware of the types of schools out there • If traveling near a school, set up a visit • Contact coaches • Junior Year-Take ACT/SATs • Take ACT/SATs often • Take unofficial visits to schools you’re interested in • Senior • Stay in contact with coaches • Take official visits • Make your decisions
D1 Recruiting Guidelines • Freshman/Sophomore • Questionnaires/Camp Brochures • Coaches CANNOT call you • You may call a coach • Junior • Recruiting Materials/Emails after Sept. 1 • One phone call per week, off campus contact after July 7th after Junior year • Senior • Phone calls once per week • Official visits after first day of senior year • Total of 5 official visits • www.ncaa.org

Visits • Official Visits • The institution will ask you to take an official visit • Some or all of your expenses will be paid by the institution • They occur after the first day of classes senior year • Limit of 5 • Unofficial • Take as many as you want • They’re at your own expense • Take them when you’re traveling • Contact the coach & meet with them
Tips • Contact the coach if you’re interested in the school • Email etiquette-spell check, punctuation, DO NOT mass email • Be proactive • Do your research • When you visit make sure you ask questions • Know you’re always being evaluated • You do the talking, not your parents
