Welcome! Math 380: Elementary Algebra Spring 2014 Michael Butler
Important Information • Role • Course Syllabus and MyCR • Math Lab • Calculator Rentals
The Academic Support Center (ASC) in the library provides individual and group tutoring. You need to check in at the ASC desk and make an appointment to meet with a tutor. MATH 380L • The "Math Lab" resides along the windows in the ASC. You must first go to registration (Forum Building) and register for Math 380L to make use of the Math Lab. If you register for 1/2 unit, you must complete 22.5 hours in the Math Lab. If you register for 1 unit, you must complete 45 hours in the Math Lab. The Math Lab is not a great place to get personal, extensive, one-on-one tutoring (you should make an appointment with an ASC tutor for that), but it is a great place to work on your homework with your study group and get help when you are stuck.
Calculator Rentals • The rental of calculators is now being done through the Math Lab, not through Cindy in the Math office. Students wishing to rent calculators will need to go to the Cashier’s office in the Student Services Building (2nd Floor), pay the $20, then bring the receipt to me in the Math Lab (in the ASC) to fill out the rental contract and get the calculator. They will be charged a $100 replacement fee if the calculator is lost, damaged, or not returned for any reason at the end of the semester. We have a limited supply, so make sure students rent them early, before we run out. Thanks! • Betsy Buchanan • Math Lab Coordinator • College of the Redwoods • (707) 476-4369 We need one today!
Placement • You may have been placed in the wrong level math course. If you think that this course is something you have already succeeded in and would like to see about moving up to Math 120, see me by Wednesday and I will discuss your options. You can use Optimath and Math Jam to help here.
Ready? • Let’s do some math.
