  1. GP Practice Profiles Nottingham City HIS John Sandall – Senior Information Manager

  2. GP Practice Profiles - Drivers • Historically GP practice analysis done with a piecemeal, ad-hoc approach • DPH of B&H PCT keen to initiate a regular review of practices on an annual cycle, with an agreed and comprehensive data set • City PEC recently commissioned a much simplified analysis as a regular report (Referrals and emergency admissions only)

  3. Drivers - Complications • Forthcoming QoF reviews may distract attention • Combine profile review with QoF review?

  4. GP Practice Profiles – Sources • Detailed data spec to track progress D:\Practice Profiles\data spec.xls • Exeter – demographics, breast & cervical screening • Community system – child vaccinations, breast feeding • Clearing Service Minimum Data Sets – in-patient and out-patient activity • ONS – deaths • Prescribing team – drugs (PACT database?) • QoF data • Others – eg flu coordinator, PCAS

  5. GP Practice Profiles - Methods • Graphical presentation where possible • Directly standardised rates with confidence limits (via Access database) • City PEC report uses simpler rates based on no. of events divided by ASTRO-PUs

  6. GP Practice Profiles - Outputs • Paper based, practices anonymised • Comparisons to PCT, ‘Borough’ and Nott City rates D:\Practice Profiles\GP admissions profiles with charts.xls • Summary sheet flags up variance (+ve or –ve) from a ‘norm’ D:\Practice Profiles\Practice profile report Aug 2004\draft report aug 2004.doc • All data attached as appendix

  7. GP Practice Profiles - Future • See what GPs in practice think • Automation – currently use a mish-mash of sources, analysis tools and outputs • Presentation – Web-based (Sollis) rather than paper? • Refine data items to provide more useful input to GP practices eg get deaths data • New LSP (Accenture) systems? • Consistent approach across 4 PCTs/ Nottinghamshire/E. Midlands/Trent/UK?
