  1. 1st Weather Station The first weather station in the world was made on July 1, 1891 in Amarillo, Texas. It was name The U.S Weather Bureau.

  3. Functions • To provide information for weather forecasts. • To study the weather and climate.

  4. Instruments : • Thermometer : to measure temperature • Barometer: to measure air or barometric pressure • Hygrometer : to measure humidity • Anemometer : to measure wind speed

  5. Instruments : • Wind vane : to measure wind direction • Rain gauge : to measure precipitation • Disdrometer : to measure drop size distribution • Transmissometer : to measure visibility

AWS advantages and disadvantages • Advantages: • Are more consistent in their measurement • Provide data at a significantly greater frequency • Provide data all day and night all 365 days • Can be installed in populated areas
