11. Disruptive change Over the last 30 years information technology has exploded into our worlds with a change so rapid that few have managed to keep pace. Each generational change has resulting in a discrete set of functionality – from the disparate systems of the 80’s providing file read/write, the 2nd generation of the 90’s introducing text-based file sharing and information interrogation through the introduction of the relational database. The late 90’s heralded the introduction of the GUI interface, totally revolutionising the ways we interacted with our systems. And now as we move through the 4th generation the Web and its interfaces are allowing us to go places we never dreamed to go. For Library systems in the main this has resulted in a need to develop completely new Systems for each generation, requiring re-learning and the creation of new workflows.
Not for Spydus.
Now in its 4th generation, Spydus provides a functionally rich, web centric application built around open system concepts. We have made it easy for our client, gradually evolving our system to new features and functionality as technology has expanded.Over the last 30 years information technology has exploded into our worlds with a change so rapid that few have managed to keep pace.
