    7. SPYDUS is Convenience Library patrons are time poor Need to be better connected Expect greater access via the Internet Libraries want to improve customer services Spydus is designed around the three core objectives of convenience, knowledge and manageability. As we touched on earlier Library patrons are becoming time poor but the demand for comprehensive and fulfilling sources of knowledge has increased. Libraries have a unique opportunity to transform themselves – to provide exciting and innovative approached the delivery of knowledge and information. Spydus helps simplify this for its customers and assist in both attracting members and retaining members for Libraries. We do this by providing easy to use, user-friendly OPACs, personalised and user-defined borrower portals and simple and efficient ways for staff to access material and borrow information.Spydus is designed around the three core objectives of convenience, knowledge and manageability.

    8. SPYDUS is Knowledge Library information is complex and sophisticated It exists in multiple media types It is encoded in many languages It only has relevance if it can be accessed easily As the world has become smaller and information has become more readily accessible so to has increased the complexity and sophistication of the retrieval of that information. It exists in multiple media types and it is encoded in many languages. It is only truly relevant if it can be accessed. Spydus manages easy access to this information uniquely - with full precision and full recall. Based on specialised indexing technology, the Spydus engine is optimised for delivering high performance data merge and join operations. This guarantees fast response times regardless of the size of the retrieved set of records. This means Libraries don’t have to compromise and can have complete, fast and easy access to all information. As the world has become smaller and information has become more readily accessible so to has increased the complexity and sophistication of the retrieval of that information. 9. SPYDUS is Manageability A greater scope of services is being delivered Library patrons demand more time from library staff Libraries are more accountable for their costs Libraries are becoming more technology dependent All the while Libraries are being asked to do more with less. Patrons are wanting more than just information and library staff are being pressed to provide a greater range of services. In the day of increased scrutiny, Libraries too are being asked to be accountable for their costs and resource requirements. And technology is enabling more innovative work-practices for Libraries it is meaning that they are becoming more technology dependent. Spydus continues to support the delivery of traditional library services while streamlining workflows so that staff can concentrate on providing value added services to its patrons. 11. Disruptive change Over the last 30 years information technology has exploded into our worlds with a change so rapid that few have managed to keep pace. Each generational change has resulting in a discrete set of functionality – from the disparate systems of the 80’s providing file read/write, the 2nd generation of the 90’s introducing text-based file sharing and information interrogation through the introduction of the relational database. The late 90’s heralded the introduction of the GUI interface, totally revolutionising the ways we interacted with our systems. And now as we move through the 4th generation the Web and its interfaces are allowing us to go places we never dreamed to go. For Library systems in the main this has resulted in a need to develop completely new Systems for each generation, requiring re-learning and the creation of new workflows. Not for Spydus. Now in its 4th generation, Spydus provides a functionally rich, web centric application built around open system concepts. We have made it easy for our client, gradually evolving our system to new features and functionality as technology has expanded.Over the last 30 years information technology has exploded into our worlds with a change so rapid that few have managed to keep pace. 12. Spydus Evolution Whilst no one can truly predict where technology and library services will be in five or ten years time, the general direction towards both greater globalization and greater localisation is evident. Spydus’s culture of ongoing innovation will ensure that we remain at the forefront of library services, anticipating the future and helping you evolve with the future. Civica’s promise is both to provide solutions that are suitable for today’s needs, and to respond to the inevitable changes that will take place over the next several years.Whilst no one can truly predict where technology and library services will be in five or ten years time, the general direction towards both greater globalization and greater localisation is evident.
