Mediation in Criminal and Civil Cases 2012 • The number of criminal and civil cases referred to mediation totalled 12 306 cases. • The total number of criminal and civil cases referred to mediation decreased by 7 per cent on 2011. • Violent crimes accounted for more than a half of all criminal and civil cases referred to mediation. • Domestic violence cases accounted for 17 per cent of all criminal and civil cases referred to mediation. • The share of under-21s of all mediation referrals decreased by 3 percentage points. Forty-one per cent of suspected offenders were aged under 21 years and 12 per cent were aged under 15 years. • The combined value of monetary compensations recorded in the agreements reached as a result of mediation amounted to EUR 2 million in 2012, an increase of 5 per cent on the previous year. • The monetary value of work compensations decreased by nearly 40 per cent to about EUR 80 000. www.thl.fi/statistics/mediationincriminalcases Statistical report 15/2013 Mediation in Criminal and Civil Cases 2012 /Statistical Report 15/2013
