Options for 2012-2013 • Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation • Regents: • 65 Pass on 5 Regents Exams (ELA, Math, Science, US History, Global History) • Local: • Via Safety Net for Students With Disabilities • 55-64 Pass Options • RCT’s for cohorts prior to September 2011 • IEP Diploma: • Only until June 30th, 2013
IEP Diploma • Last year to issue was 2012-2013 • Eliminated after June 30, 2013 • Being replaced by credentials
Background on the IEP Diploma • Not an actual diploma • Being issued far more than it should be • Some parents and students thought they were receiving a diploma.
Credentials For 2013-2014 Phase 1: Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential Phase 2: New York State Career Development & Occupational Studies Commencement Credential (CDOS Credential)

For What Students? • For a student with a disability as a supplement to a regular high school diploma OR • For a student with a disability who is unable to earn a regular diploma because of his/her disability as the student’s exiting credential
Minimum Requirements for the NYS CDOS Commencement Credential The student: • Completes a Career Plan(updated annually) • Demonstrates achievement of the commencement level CDOS Learning Standards for: • Career Development • Integrated Learning • Universal Foundation Skills • Successfully completes 216 hours of instruction in • Career and Technical Education (CTE) and/or work-based learning • At least 54 hours must be in work-based learning • Has a completed Employability Profile
OR • The student earns one of the nationally-recognized work readiness credentials • SkillsUSA • National Work Readiness Credential • National Career Readings Certificate – (ACT) WorkKeys • Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems Workforce Skills Certification Systems
Funding • A school district that awards this credential to more than 20% of the students with disabilities in the cohort, where such credential is not a supplement to a regular high school diploma, shall be required to use a portion of its Part B Individuals with Disabilities Education Act grant funds for targeted activities, as deemed necessary by SED, to ensure that students with disabilities have appropriate access to participate and progress in the general education curriculum necessary to earn a regular high school diploma.
