In the name of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit, One God Amen. What does it mean to be a busy Christian?
Being Busy Being busy could take on so many forms. We can feel busy and anxious because of lack of time management or Procrastination: like leaving things to the very last minute. We can tell ourselves “I’m too busy” for this or that, to avoid making commitments to others that in actuality we probably can fit in our schedule.
Where’s the balance? • On the other hand am I getting caught up in the rat race and every day getting up, rushing out, stuffing down my lunch, working, then rushing home, from one thing to the next in survival mode, almost unaware of what I’m doing, not living in the moment because I’m thinking about what I need to do next--just stressed!
Giving the first fruits to God The first fruits of our day
Quiet time can be as simple as 15 minutes first thing in the Morning!
If we examine our day-- our “to do list” let’s see what that to do list is centered around?
Balance! St. Augustine said: “Sin is imbalance.” “All which exceed limits is from the demons” –early Church fathers
Story of St. Antony and the Hunter “Abba Anthony, if I keep my bow always stretched, it will break.”
Worship Play Work Love
In Summary: • Let’s examine our schedule! • Do I give God the first fruits of my day and getting my energy/spiritual food to energize me for the day ahead? • Are we living in a rat race? • What are our priorities? • Are we wasting our time? Is there a hidden habit (little foxes) that are eating up my time and making me feel too “busy” to really be what God intended for me to be? • Am I burnt out and out of balance due to a sense of guilt—that I have to be spent, that I don’t deserve a break. • Do I have the four quadrants of Worship, Love, Work and Play in order?
a poem/prayerMoments of Leisure:Lord, thank youFor the moments of leisureAnd peaceful solitudeI can legitimately snatchHere and thereWithout apologizing.Thank you for assuring meThat I needn’t condemn myselfWhen I spend some timeReading or resting
Or shopping just for fun.Thank you for convincing me That there’s no gloryIn a rat race.I’ve discovered, dear LordThan an hour or two“Away from it all”Calms my inner muddleAnd cuts through the confusionWithout a driving sense of urgencyI think more clearly—I plan more wisely.I am more patient, more lovingMore understanding with my family.
I even accept with calmnessThe multiple demands imposed upon me.Than you so much, dear God,For the certain knowledge that Jesus (Who always obeyed the Father)Went apart from the crowd to rest.So must I!Glory be to Him Amen.
