Good News Story • SPLOST II provides for 7 new schools in west Cobb: 1 primary, 3 middle, and 2 high schools • Hillgrove HS, Lovinggood MS, and McClure MS will add 234 instructional units. • When additions are completed and when the senior class moves to Hillgrove, CCSD can remove approximately 90 portables.
Recommended Size of Schools • Hillgrove High School • 1912 student capacity • 92 instructional units • Lovinggood Middle School • 1162 student capacity • 71 instructional units • McClure Middle School • 1162 student capacity • 71 instructional units
PROCESS • Central Administration Planning Group (CAPG) • Chief Operations Officer • Director of Planning • Executive Director of Transportation • 4 Additional staff members
Central Administration Planning Group (CAPG), which shall consist of staff members from Operations Administration and School Administration, will collaborate in developing a preliminary school attendance zone plan. • The CAPG will research the following prior to drafting school attendance zone plans: • Residential development • Population growth trends • School construction • Transportation • Educational programs • Budget implications
The CAPG will strive to • Maintain efficient/effective school sizes • Use existing school facilities efficiently • Equalize student enrollment/capacity ratios • Consider safety of students traveling to/from school • Minimize time/distance between home/school • Support efficient/direct feeder patterns, when possible
EXECUTIVE LIMITATIONS:Policy Title: Attendance Zones • In any planning or implementing of attendance zone changes, the CEO shall not allow the creation of unnecessary variation among students or conditions for students. • 1. The burden of disruption and hardship borne by affected students shall differ no more than needed to protect equal educational opportunity. • 2. The resulting mix of students will not sacrifice diversity or jeopardize equality of opportunity more than necessitated by the exigencies of drawing geographic boundaries.
