1. True or False:(must get all parts right to score one point)
2. All of the following are true about R.Y.E. except: • R.Y.E. students receive a monthly stipend from their sponsoring clubs • R.Y.E. is one of the earliest programs of TRF (The Rotary Foundation) • R.Y.E. is the only Rotary youth program. • Host families for incoming R.Y.E. students undergo a rigorous screening process
3. R.Y.E. students may: • Have several host “mothers and fathers” during their time here. • Take all school courses in their native language • Drive while in this country
4. R.Y.E. students may: • Participate in service activities and projects while in this country • Speak to Clubs and the District conference • Be asked to do the normal chores the other kids in her/his “family” are asked to do • All of the above
5. In General, R.Y.E. has more trouble attracting kids from this country to travel overseas than vice versa. In other words, it’s easier to attract inbound rather than outbound students
6. A youth exchange student was found smoking marijuana. What happens now? • The student will be recommended to attend seminars on drug avoidance, at the District Level • The student will be given injections of naloxone , a narcotic antagonist • The student will be sent home to his native country • If nobody was hurt, it’ll be okay
7. It is not necessary for the R.Y.E. student to know English on arrival to this country:
8. After the Exchange is over, host “parents” are encouraged to keep in touch with their Rotary “son” or “daughter.”
9. Will the host family be compensated monetarily by Rotary for hosting a student? • Rotary is not able to provide any monetary compensation for families that choose to host students. • Rotary will provide the same compensation as the student’s family earned in her/his native country • If requested, a monthly stipend of $500 may be given
10. How is a student selected to come to this country? • A coin-toss with a good American Quarter works fine • Only the top athletes are allowed to come. • Program administrators in the student's home country assess an applicant's scholastic record, linguistic ability, and general adaptability, among other qualities.
13. Why do long-term exchange students stay with three host families during their stay? • This discourages cultural understanding • This stops students from knowing a cross-section of life in the host country • This helps students adapt to new situations.
A place to look for a list of districts having a Youth Exchange Web site is: • In the Rotary Manual of Procedure, Section 7 • In “The Rotarian” • In your local newspaper • In the pages of www.rotary.org
