Saudi Arabia  • In 1985, Prince Sultan Ibn Salaman became the first Arab and first Muslim to travel in space when he flew aboard the space shuttle Discovery. • Saudi Arabian women are forbidden to drive cars or ride bicycles. Rules like this are based on Saudi Arabian laws and customs. • Islam is the religion practiced Muslims. • People in Saudi Arabia prefer to talk before and after their meals rather then during.

IRAN • Men and women do not display affection in public, even if married. • Boys and girls attend different schools, except in some rural areas where there is not enough space. • Most marriages are arranged by families. In the past, this meant many girls married their cousins, but attitudes about freedom in selecting marriage partners are changing in some areas. • Iran's official language is Persian or Farsi.

ISRAEL • Israel has the second largest fleet of fighter aircraft in the world, after the United states, with more than 250 F-16’s. • Israel is the only country in the middle east that allows Jews, Christians, and Muslims to vote. • Hyenas, porcupines, and wildcats are just a few of Israel's wild animals. • One third of all Israelites volunteer for some sort of service organization.

TURKEY • Soccer was introduced by the British in the 19th century in Turkey. • A popular sport in Turkey is camel wrestling, where two camels bump into each other until one is knocked down or when one runs away. • The most common folk instrument is the saz, a kind of long- necked, egg-shaped guitar. • Tea is considered the national drink, it is so popular that when there are shortages of it in the past , it was said that the whole country shut down.
