  1. “Keeping UP” EBSCOhost’s “Alert” Feature Using INFOhio Electronic Resources to keep up in your field! INFOhio  Revised September 2003

  2. EBSCOhost’s Alert feature allows you to create a search on a topic of your choice and save the search as an Alert. You are then notified through e-mail each time a new article is published that meets your search requirements. sz

  3. Whichever collection you are searching, you must use the Advanced Search to have access to the Alert feature.

  4. You choose the databases you want to search.

  5. Enter your search term and set any parameters you want.

  6. Take time to refine your search and be certain that it is bringing you the kind of results you want.

  7. Use the Search Tips and the Help inside EBSCOhost to become a knowledgeable searcher.

  8. When you are satisfied with your search terms and the type of results your are getting, click on Search History/Alerts.

  9. With your Search History selected, choose Save Searches / Alerts.

  10. An Alert is saved in your personal account so you need a personal User Name and Password. Notice the choices for “New User” or “I forgot….”

  11. Save your search as an Alert.

  12. These are choices you will need to consider.

  13. Immediately after you save an Alert, a message is sent to the e-mail you selected.

  14. You can come back later & edit your search or change preferences. Advanced Search Search History/Alerts Retrieve Alerts

  15. In addition to making edits, you can also cancel the Alert …as long as you remember your User Name and Password! 

  16. That’s it! You have saved an Alert!
