Dysarthria Dysarthria is common among people who suffer from Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Dysarthria affects about 51% of people with MS and is the most common disorder of communication in those with this disease.
Dysarthria • Dysarthria is a motor speech disorder. It results from impaired movement of the muscles used for speech production. • Conditions that may result in dysarthria include: • Brain injury • Stroke • Cerebral palsy • Parkinson’s disease
Dysarthria • Symptoms of Dysarthria include: • "Slurred," "choppy," or "mumbled" speech • Limited tongue, lip, and jaw movement • Difficulty moving your tongue or facial muscles • Uneven speech volume
Dysarthria • Dysarthria can be diagnosed by: • Imaging tests such as CT scan, MRI scan. • Brain biopsy to test for brain tumor • Lumbar puncture to test for disorders of central nervous system
