Evaporation of water from the thousands of miles of canals in India is a major cause of concern. Also, in other parts of the country, there are people facing the problems of erratic power supply. To mitigate this, a new project in the State of Gujarat has started covering canals with solar panels. This plan developed in partnership with SunEdison India, the government plans to cover more than 19,000 kilometer of canals in Gujarat with solar panels. This project comes at a very right time, when our country has been facing an acute shortage of water. Under such conditions, preventing unnecessary evaporation of water needs to be brought under control. This project has been implemented as a pilot project as of now and the team is in the process of scaling it up. The pilot project covers an area of 750 meters and is capable of producing 1 megawatt of energy.
These solar panels, when covering the entirety of the canals can become Gujarat’s source of clean renewable energy. In addition to generating electricity for a nation in a severe energy crunch, this project will also save 90 million litres of water by stopping unwarranted evaporation of an already scarce resource – Water. Pure steam generator is also a good option in the process. • Now water treatment companies are providing sip system which is so useful for process. We can get good quality of water for use.
