  1. Project Execution Planning for Building Information Modeling (BIM) STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE OVERVIEW

  2. Project Goal • Develop a method that focused on the decisions required to increase the Building Information Modeling process efficiency throughout the stages of a building project: • Planning • Design • Construction • Operations

  3. Step 1: BIM Use Identification • Goal: Identify the appropriate BIM goals bases on project and team characteristics • When – Initial BIM Planning Meeting • Responsible Parties – BIM Project Team (Owner, Arch, Engineers, Contractor(s), Facility Manager) • Resources: • BIM Use Selection Tool - helps identify project specific BIM goals for each project phase • BIM Ex Wiki – provides information on each BIM Use helpful for the selection process

  4. Step 2: Design BIM Project Execution Process • Goals: • Create Project Specific Process Maps for each BIM Use identified in Step 1 • Create an overview map of the BIM Project Execution Procedure • Responsible Parties – Lead Team Members responsible for creating each project specific Process Maps • When – 2nd Initial BIM Planning Meeting • Resources: • Template Process Maps of each BIM Use are available for a starting point for team members

  5. Three Levels of Process Maps Required Please click on the link above for an example of each Map

  6. Step 3: Define BIM Deliverables • Goal: Defining the information exchange requirements for the BIM Deliverables defined in Step 2: • Define the Information exchange (A,B,C,D,E) • Identifying the responsible parties • Define the grouping requirements • Identifying the timeframe for each deliverable • When – 3rd BIM Planning Meeting • Resources: • Information Exchange Requirement Template

  7. Step 4: BIM Execution Plan Development • Goal: Define.. • When – Upon completion of 3rdBIM Planning Meeting • Resources: • Table of Contents regarding important information to be placed in the BIM Project Execution Plan Document

  8. Step 4: BIM Execution Plan Development Project X BIM Execution Plan
