Korea's Cha Yu-ram ruled the 2010 Amway Cup Women's World 9-Ball Open at the Core Pacific Living Mall Hotel in Taipei, Taiwan on Mar. 7, 2010. She finished the competition undefeated. Cha eliminated Chang Shu-han of Taiwan, 9-7 on the way to the final. Cha's opponent in the final was WPBA No.1 ranked Kim Ga-young. Kim was the winner of 2007 Amway Cup. Before facing her compatriot at an all-Korean final, Kim beat S.M. Chen of China, 9-2. Cha fell behind early in the final match as Kim held a 3-1 lead. But she quickly recovered, winning five straight games to take a 6-3 lead in the race. Kim only won two more games as Cha cruised to a one-sided 11-5 victory over Kim, winning her first ever Amway Cup title. For the prize money, Cha earned $20,000 for the win, while Kim settled for $10,000. The other quarterfinalists, Chang and Chen each got $5,000. Cha, 23, is a professional pool player known as the ‘Billiards Beauty’ among her fans. At first, Cha started playing tennis when she was eight. But she ended up quitting tennis due to lack of stamina and started playing pool when she was 13. For a focused girl like Cha, playing on a pool table was a much better choice than playing with a tennis racket. She began to build up her reputation by winning the women’s nine-ball ranking competition in Korea in 2003. She was ranked as high as fifth in women’s world rankings at the age of 22. She is also called ‘Little Lightning,’ which is her nickname on the Women’s Professional Billiards Association Tour. According to Cha, her ‘killer instinct’ combined with confidence and positive thinking, is her greatest advantage when playing the game. Now, the 23-year-old aims for the gold in the Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou, China in November. ☞ Choose the best answer based on the article.
