Gingerbread Cookies Ingredients: Directions: Need 2 mixing bowls: In 1 bowl add flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking powder, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Mix to combine and set aside. In 2nd separate bowl beat butter, shortening & brown sugar to cream. Lastly, add molasses, egg and vanilla. Mix well. • 3 C (AP) Flour • 2 t Ginger • 2 t Cinnamon • 4 t baking powder • ¼ t Nutmeg • ½ t ground cloves • ½ t salt • 3 oz butter or margarine • 3 oz shortening • 1 C brown sugar • ½ C molasses • 1 egg • 1 t vanilla extract Gradually add 1st bowl of dry ingredients to the creamed mixture bowl. Mix until combined. Yields = 24-32 cookies
Gingerbread Continued: • Knead just until combined and place on plastic wrap. • Press dough into thick flat disk. Wrap in plastic wrap. • Label by period/names - Refrigerate overnight. • Following day: • Roll out dough to ¼ inch or 1/8 inch thickness on lightly floured prep table. • Cut into shapes with cutter. Place 1 inch apart on sheet lined pans. • Bake @350 F for 8-10 minutes or until edges begin to brown. • Allow cookies to cool completely before decorating.
