Until January 2010 …… each Board, working with CCMS, CnaG or NICIE where appropriate, will be expected to monitor the performance of schools in its area and provide support to schools to ensure a sustained focus on improvement. Strengths in the Provision in Pre-School Education • Welcoming, caring environment • Continued development of the children’s motivation and good attitudes to learning, with an appropriate emphasis on personal, social and emotional development • Improvements are being made in learning outdoors and physical play and the links with Surestart and the primary schools to which children transfer
Achievements and Standards • The promotion of good attitudes to learning and the development of the children’s autonomy and independence. • Nursery schools continue to promote well the children’s early language and communication and mathematical experiences.
Actions required to effect further improvement • The quality of the adult interactions with the children to promote language and communications is not good enough • In almost one-quarter of nursery units and voluntary/private centres, the promotion of language and communication and the quality of the mathematical experiences have been identified as areas for improvement.
