9. Graduating from the University of London International Programmes • Final diploma shows you were registered with the University of London and awarded a University of London degree. It gives the name of the University of London College that conducted the examinations. • Graduates also receive a Diploma Supplement which: • includes a transcript of individual courses, marks and overall classification • provides information on the role of the Lead College and method of study • explains there is no difference between the standards of awards, whatever the study route. • Graduates can attend a Graduation Ceremony in London

About the diplomas – Economics and Social Sciences • Provides access to the degree if you do not have the necessary entry qualifications • You obtain a qualification which admits you to the second year of BSc degree • You must attend a recognised institution to complete the course and do the requisite written work • You have between 1-5 years to complete

About the Access route • Designed for those students who may not have the necessary qualifications for entry to the degree. • Allows you to study two full units and demonstrate your ability. • If you are successful you are given access to the degree and will be credited with the two units. www.londoninternational.ac.uk/prospective_students/undergraduate/lse/access

How will I study? • Plan out your time – you have between 3-8 years to complete. • You can take a minimum of two units and a maximum of four units per year. • Study independently or with local support • Allow a minimum of 35 study hours a week for about 34 weeks a year if you intend to complete the maximum of four units in any one year.

Support for your study You have options: • Hard copies of text books and learning resources, plus online library. • Mix of hard copy text books plus access the web for interaction, videos of lectures, and discussion. • Using study resources, plus attending classes at a local college on full or part-time basis.

22. The online learning environment • LISTEN: Recorded messages from LSE academics and other staff. • READ: Study materials • DISCUSS: Forums where you can chat online to other students who are studying the same units • TEST YOURSELF: Quizzes, activities and solutions for some units

Can I transfer to the UK? • LSE and many other universities welcome applications from International Programmes students to study the second year of a relevant degree on campus in the UK or apply to study their Masters in the UK. • You will need very good grades in your exams, and a good academic background. • Contact UCAS to apply for transfer: www.ucas.ac.uk (You cannot be considered for transfer into the final year of a degree).

24. Is distance learning right for me? • Study whenever and wherever is convenient to you, and fit your studies in around other commitments. • Study and sit exams wherever you live, even if you have to move with your job. • Must be highly motivated and self-disciplined, and able to master complex problems independently. • It’s challenging, but the outcome is very rewarding and improves confidence and self-esteem.

35. Am I eligible? You need the equivalent of: • GCSE ‘O’ level English or test of proficiency. • GCSE ‘O’ level Maths or equivalent. • Two grade C subjects at GCE ‘A’ level plus three passes in further subjects at GCSE ‘O’ level. What exemptions are available? • Some universities and colleges may use the terms ‘credit transfer’ or ‘advanced standing’; we use the term ‘exemption’. • If you are given an exemption, you do not need to take a particular unit. • This could apply if you have covered a similar syllabus in the same breadth and depth, within the past five years. • Students may be given exemptions for up to four Foundation units.
