Organisation Team 2009 • Central organisation • People and infrastructure at Dresden • Michael Kobel • Uta Bilow(project manager, ½ time, 3 years, Helmholtz Alliance Physics at the Terascale) • Tatjana Sereda (secretary) • Matthias Schöne(student teacher) CD, website and LHC exercises • Christian Rudolph (physics student) CD and website • Video Conference • Technics: • Marek Domaracky, Knut Björkli, Viktor Michalcin, Joao Fernandezplus EVObeta team (CERN, Caltech, VK Slovakia) • Quiz: • Peter Steinbach, Ken Cecire • Moderators: • Sue Cheatham, Jula Draeger, Zoe Matthews, Vicki Moeller, Sam Harper, Michael Hauschild, Peter Steinbach, Matthew Tamsett, Tom Whyntie
Organisation Team • Steering Committee • Central Organisation: Michael Kobel, Uta Bilow • US-Organisation: Ken Cecire • EPPOG: Erik Johansson • Moderators: Peter Steinbach • EVO Team: Marek Domaracky • National Organisation • Contact persons in each country • Local responsibles for each institute
Funding and in kind contribution • CD: interactive learning and teaching material / 17 languages • production and shipping: ~7500 Euro EPS-HEPP + BMBF • EVO support CERN + Caltech + Slovak ministry • Moderators • Brochures “Weltmaschine” BMBF • T-Shirts, card games CERN
Exercises • 13 days with Z0 • 4 days with Z0 + alpha_s • Identifying Particles or Hands on CERN
Exercises • New: LHC exercises • HYPATIA • 10 events, form for results • Local discussion • Positive feedback • LHC covered in talks • Exercises on CD and web • Translation into 10 languages
Video session • Video session: • Central connecting element • 3 – 6 institutes • 90 min (16:30 – 18:00) • Presentation by moderators, global combination, discussion, Q&A, quiz • No teachers video sessions • 9 moderators (4 sessions each), introduction by Peter Steinbach/CERN
Video session Great for students if technically working and lively If not: • strict admission procedure after successful test with final equipment at final place • hardware recommendations • EVO tests: 2. – 10.2. (52 institutes passed, 26 failed) • additional tests with better equipment: 2. – 5.3. • no exclusions necessary, but few institutes retreated
Video session • EVO tests: large workload • Continuing support ? • Marek and Knut leaving CERN • EVO-workshop for moderators?
Feedback • organisation • distribution of information • preparation of material • CD • Video/audio transmission • CERN presentations too long • Lenghty discussion of results • Video session too long

Future • Upgrade for LHC: Konrad Jende, Wolfgang-Gentner PhD thesis scholarship • Website under reconstruction • Masterclasses at school • Funding – LLP? • Evaluation • GSEN
Future • National Network in Germany „Teilchenwelt“ • Application in preparation • Hierarchical program for teachers and students • 4 levels with decreasing number of participants • Basic training: 400 teacher + 6000 students / year • Reinforcement program • Active Cooperation • Research: 5 teachers + 30 students / year
