MGRID Accounting Shawn McKee SURAgrid All-hands Meeting Washington D.C. March 15, 2007
MGRID Account Overview • “The MGRID Accounting package provides a XML-based back end for translating disparate Grid Scheduler Log formats into a common format defined by the Global Grid Forum's Usage Record Working Group. • Scheduling logs from PBS, Condor, and potentially others are translated and ingested into a accounting database • Accessible to a web front end. MGRID provides an example Java Servlet and a fully featured Chef portlet that allows users to query on their own usage statistics, and allows administrators to query on resource usage statistics. • This project leverages and extends the functionality of the PBS Accounting Package."
Accounting vs Monitoring (See DGAS site http://www.to.infn.it/grid/accounting/main.html )
Status of MGRID Accounting • I should point out that MGRID is not currently very active (in somewhat of a hibernation mode waiting for the University to catch up!) • Some level of support is available to help answer questions and provide details about the implementation… • OSG has Gratia which is another option: • https://twiki.grid.iu.edu/twiki/bin/view/Accounting/WebHome
MGRID Accounting Summary • Uses XML records confirming to the OGF Usage Record Working Group standard • http://www.psc.edu/~lfm/PSC/Grid/UR-WG/ • Could be adapted to other systems besides Condor and PBS which are the only ones currently supported. • Gratia is an alternative which also uses UR-WG schema (OGF)
