Adam Ward Period 1 Yemen: The Grand Fanale
The Country of Yemen • Middle East • Mainly Arabic • Arabian Peninsula • 555,000 square kilometers • 50th largest country in the world • Capital= Sana’a • Population– 23,580,000
The Revolutionaries • The youth revolutionary leader was Khaled al-Madani. • Shehab Al-Sharabi was considered to be the main leader of the revolution. • Majority of Revolutionaries were younger than 20, working class citizens, and Muslim. Both men and women participated.
Government Leaders • President: Ali Abdullah Saleh resigned because of depression, un-employment , and a corrupt regime caused the people to protest. • Vice President: Abdu Rabu Hadi called for a cease fire.
How it’s Similar to the American Revolution • Both were unhappy with the government and wanted a change. • Both had men and women contributing. • Both had need of a new government (America-because they separated from its mother country, Britain. Yemen- because they overthrew their old government.
The Future of Yemen • My personal beliefs are that the revolution in Yemen will succeed. Saleh will fall from power and the people of Yemen will be free.
