City Facts • Aztec Empire • Located in Central Valley of Mexico • Connected with the mainland by three great causeways • City contained hundreds of temples, beautiful plazas, and a huge marketplace. and many religious complexes • Capital was founded in 1325 A.D. on a muddy island in the lake that filled the basin of Mexico at that time. • Capital became a great city with the help of trained engineers, builders, and traders. • At that time, it had 300,000 people and was the largest city in the world.

Fun Facts • Known for their large stone temples • One of the first cultures to make a chocolate drink • Make clothing from cactus fibers, and are sacrificed to their gods • Largest city of the Aztec Empire • Located where is know Mexico City and has some of the worst smog on the planet • Earthquake prone
