  1. “Ehm!” Welcome to the battlefield! I’m William Tecumseh Sherman, Major General in the Civil War. Don’t mind the cannons here were in the middle of the Savannah Campaign but you’ll hear more about that later. I was born February 8, 1820 in Lancaster, Ohio, nice place. My mom and dad Charles and Mary Sherman were divorced so I never met my mom. When I was 9 my dad died so the neighbors Thomas and Maria Ewing raised me then sent me off to some nasty military academy! Around 1850 I married the lovely Eleanor Ewing. Later on I had several unsuccessful attempts at a political careers so I dumped that idea. e
