  5. What is a Title I School? Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 6301 et seq.) is amended to read as follows: TITLE I – IMPROVING THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF THE DISADVANTAGED • The purpose of Title I under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) is to ensure that ALL children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at minimum, proficiency in challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments. • Title I funds aim to bridge the gap between low-income students and other students. The U.S. Department of Education provides supplemental funding to local school districts to meet the needs of at-risk and low-income students. • Title I is the largest federally funded program for elementary, middle, and high schools.   8. What are our school’s Title I requirements? Our schools are schoolwide Title I schools. In a schoolwide Title I school, ALL students benefit from Title I resources. • Math manipulatives, ELA books, workbooks • Consumable supplies (paper, notebooks, pencils) • Technology (Mini-iPads, Chromebooks) • Additional staff members lower the student-teacher ratio • Small Groups for the regular classroom • Professional Development for Staff • Parent Involvement/Engagement Resources Annual Title I Parent Meeting August 2019

McDuffie County School System Goals • Increase the percentage of students in grades 3-8 scoring at the Developing Learner level or above by 3% on the 2020 GMAS ELA EOG • Increase by 2% the percentage of students in grades 3-12 achieving the Developing Learner level or above on the GMAS 2019 Winter EOC and 2020 Spring EOG/EOC Annual Title I Parent Meeting August 2019

SchoolWide Program and Goals2019-2020 • Students in grades 4-5 scoring at the Developing Learner or above on the 2020 Georgia Milestones English Language Arts (ELA) EOG Assessment by three points. • Increase the percentage of students in grades 4-5 scoring at Developing Learner or above on the 2020 Georgia Milestone Mathematics End-of-Grade (EOC) Assessment by two points. • In 4th and 5th grade our school will focus on the following area: Content Vocabulary Development, Reading Fluency, Reading Comprehension, Writing within all Genres Annual Title I Parent Meeting August 2019

What tests will my child be taking? • State Assessments: • Georgia Milestones (Grades 3 -12) • ACCESS for English Language Learners • *National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) – this assessment is not given every year to all students in all grade levels. The NAEP measures student achievement in the Unites States to the performance of students in Georgia with the performance of students across the nation or in other states.   15. How do these tests measure my child’s progress? Students in McDuffie County take a variety of assessments. Formative assessments measure learning targets within the standards and serve as indicators of progression towards mastery of the curriculum. Universal screeners, along with other factors, are used to determine if a student is in need of additional academic assistance. Statewide longitudinal data system (SLDS) Benefits of the SLDS Parent Portal Using Georgia's SLDS Parent Portal helps parents to: • Monitor their children’s achievement on statewide summative assessments; • Identify their children’s strengths and weaknesses in the domains that are tested in each subject area; • Access online resources that are directly aligned to their children’s course standards. ; Annual Title I Parent Meeting August 2019

How to access the Georgia slds Parents can access the Georgia SLDS Parent Portal by following these steps: • Login to the District’s Student Information System Parent Portal. • Click the SLDS Portal button at the bottom of the list on the left side of the student’s page. • After clicking the SLDS Portal button, the Parent Portal Welcome Page will open. If you have access to more than one child in the district portal, you will see a dropdown box containing the name of each child. • To see your child’s attendance history and statewide summative test history, click the Student Performance icon under the child’s name.   21. Does my child’s teacher meet professional qualifications? In compliance with the requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act, you may request information about the professional qualifications of your child’s teacher(s) or paraprofessional(s). The following information may be requested: • Whether the student’s teacher: • Has met the State qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction: • Is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived; and • Is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher. • Whether the child is provided a services by paraprofessionals and , if so, their qualifications • If you wish to request information concerning your child’s teacher(s) and /or paraprofessional’s qualifications, please contact the principal.   28. Federal Complaints Procedure Any individual, organization, or agency may file a complaint with the McDuffie County Board of Education (McBOE). If that individual, organization, or agency believes and alleges that the McBOE or an individual school within the McDuffie County School System is violating a federal statute or regulation that applies to a program under ESEA. The complaint must allege a violation that occurred not more than one (1) year prior to the date that the complaint is received, unless a longer period is reasonable because the violation is considered systemic or ongoing. The complaint procedure is located within the McDuffie County School System calendar and on the system website. Forms are available from any school’s main office or from the central office.   29. Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Policy • McDuffie County School System employees shall be encouraged to report verbally or in writing to their supervisor, department head, or other appropriate authority, evidence of activity by district department, agency, or employee constituting: • A violation of local, state, or federal law, rule or regulation; • Fraud; • Misappropriation of resources; • Substantial and specific danger to the public health and safety; or • Gross mismanagement, a gross waste of monies, or gross abuse of authority. • Further, it is the rule of the McDuffie County School System that employees be free of intimidation or harassment when reporting to public bodies about matters of public concern; including offering testimony to or testifying before appropriate legislative panels. Schoolwide and Parent Engagement Plans • Title I Parent/Family Engagement Plan/Policy and Title I School-Parent Compact are available on websites, in main offices, and were distributed with Open House materials. • These documents were crafted with parental and community stakeholder in put at every meeting held. Every Child deserves a championwe need you… Research and studies have found that students with INVOVLED and ENGAGED caring adults, no matter what their income or background, are more likely to: • Earn high grades and test scores, • Enroll in higher level classes, • Pass their classes, earn credit, and be promoted, • Attend school regularly, and • Graduate and go to postsecondary education.
