Seletta Livingston Brittany Mungin Database Project CISM 3137 Livingston’s Backhoe Services
History Chris Livingston is the owner and operator of Livingston’s Backhoe Services. The company specializes in installation of fuel and water lines. Livingston’s Backhoe Services also does clearing for land construction and operations. There are many tools and large equipment used for these tasks. The equipment must be serviced, repaired, and maintained to complete a job and for customer satisfaction. Mr. Livingston is seeking new features for a previous database system that was completed for him. His wife, Mrs. Livingston, is taking an active role in helping him with the business.
Project Overview The project is being undertaken because Mr. Livingston is seeking a new design and more features for his database. For the previous database system Mr. Livingston was the sole user, but since the business has grown his wife has now taking the responsibility of operating the database system. Mr. Livingston has started to lease his equipment out to smaller businesses and for personal use. He and his wife want to keep track of who is leasing the equipment as well as the income they receive from leasing the equipment.
Project Scope Mr. Livingston is already able to enter, store, and retrieve information about his customers, spending on his equipment, and the jobs that he has completed. He will also be able to keep up with the leasing of his equipment to local business. This system will help the client have improved data access. As the developers we used Microsoft Access, Visio Pro, and Microsoft Project to complete this project.
Completing this project By completing this database system we have a better understanding of how the systems work. Since we have had the opportunity to develop a database system before, we know that this project should give a breakdown of the input, process, and output of the company. It will give us details on how an organization can develop into a better company with the use of technology. It can also show what mistakes the company is making.
Conclusion In conclusion the first database has helped Mr. Livingston keep track of his customer base and invoices for his machine repairs and services. With the new features we hope to increase Mr. Livingston’s knowledge, when it comes to his database system. This system will also help Mr. Livingston keep up with his finances when he leases his equipment and tools to other subcontractors.
