The NAFTA bill was signed on December 8, 1992. The people who signed this were U.S. president Bill Clinton, Canada’s Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and Mexico’s president Carlos Salinas. Although President George Bush negotiated NAFTA his presidential term was over when it was signed.
The central thrust of the agreement is to eliminate most tariffs on products traded between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The final aspects of the deal were not official until January 1st , 2008.
NAFTA is now the worlds largest Free Trade Agreement which is currently linking 450 million people to it and producing 17 trillion dollars in goods.
