Medisave • Used for the outpatient treatments of four chronic diseases (diabetes, high blood pressure, lipid disorder and stroke), • 6.5-9% of monthly salary goes to a personal Medisave account • The savings can be used to pay for the hospital bills of the account holder and his immediate family members

Insurance Schemes • Medishield • Low cost catastrophic illness insurance scheme • Helps members meet medical expenses from major illnesses • Operates on a co-payment and deductible system to avoid problems associated with first-dollar, comprehensive insurance • Covers up to 80% of large medical bills at the Class B2/C level

  4. Insurance Schemes • Elder Shield • Severe disability insurance scheme • Provides basic financial protection to those who need long-term care • Provides a monthly cash payout to help pay the out-of-pocket expenses for the care of a severely-disabled person

  5. Primary Healthcare • Private practitioners provide 80% of primary healthcare services • Government polyclinics provide 20% • 18 outpatient polyclinics and some 2,000 private medical practitioner's clinics • Elderly receive further help through the Primary Care Partnership Scheme (PCPS)
