  1. Let’s Grow A Plant! By Ms. Megan Sullivan Sangster Elementary School Spring 2008

  2. Where do plants come from? • Plants come from seeds. • Most seeds start to grow in the Spring, when the weather is warmer. • The seed grows when it has: • Sunlight • Soil, Dirt • Water

  3. Seeds • Sometimes people plant seeds. • But what if there were no people? • Would a plant's seeds just fall on the ground right next to the plant?

  4. Let’s Plant a Seed!

  5. If You Want to Plant a Seed, You Will Need: Sun/ Light Water Seeds Pot Soil

  6. We Have Everything We Need--Let’s Plant Seeds! Put some SOIL in the POT. Get a POT and a bag of SOIL

  7. When the SOIL is in the POT: Next, cover the SEEDS with the SOIL. Poke a hole in the dirt with your finger. Put three (3) SEEDS in the hole.

  8. After the SEED is covered with SOIL, it needs WATER First Plant your seed. Then Pour water on the dirt.

  9. Water the seed every day and it may grow.

  10. Plants and SEEDS need LIGHT Choose a place to keep your pot: • Next to a sunny window • Under a bright lamp that has a lot of light • Outside if the weather is warm

  11. The seed starts to GROW • Click on the tallest.

  12. The seedling has sprouted! What do you think will happen next?

  13. The Plant Grows Flowers!

  14. What if the seed doesn’t grow? • I should wait10 days to give the seed time to grow. If the seed does not sprout by Day 10, it will probably never grow. • Sometimes, seeds do not grow at all. When my seed doesn’t grow, I might feel sad. • It is O.K. that I feel sad. It is O.K. that my seed did not grow. • I can askmy teacher for another seed and I will try again. I will follow the steps in how to plant a seed. My teacher likes it when I smile and try again!
