You Make the Call! SAWS Workshop Phoenix AZ April 10-11, 2007
Presentation Overview • Exercise Goal: promote awareness of communication effectiveness (not intended to be an in-depth case study). • Point #1: Distractions abound; never assume important, but seemingly obvious, points are understood by customers. It’s possible that crucial meteorology forecasts cannot be communicated enough. • Point #2: Many different ways to get the message across--be sure to use the common ones as effectively as possible when addressing hazardous weather.
Case Overview • PHX receives about one “fog day” per year on average. • PHX 5th busiest airport in the nation, negative impact on NAS is significant. • December 22, 2006 afternoon analysis - strong low pressure located over Great Lakes, affecting the entire Northeast U.S., with an upper low sweeping across the Southeast U.S.
SW Trof cuts off and dives Southeast (12/22 12Z – 12/23 18Z)
