  2. THE ITALIAN NATIONAL ANTHEM • The Italiansong, known as the Mameli anthem, hasbeenwritten in 1847 by Goffredo Mameli whenhewas just 20. The songbecameofficially the Italiannationalanthem on October the12th 1946.

  3. THE OPERA • The mostknownexpressionof the Italianmusic is the Opera that is boththeatre, music and ballet. The interpreters do notacttheir part speakingbutsinging. • The mostimportantexponentsof the Italian Opera are Giuseppe Verdi and Gioacchino Rossini.

  4. GIOACCHINO ROSSINI • Gioacchino Rossini was born on the 29th February 1792. The most important operas he wrote were ‘’Barbiere di Siviglia’’, ‘’Guglielmo Tell’’ and ‘’La gazza ladra’’.

  5. GIUSEPPE VERDI • Giuseppe Verdi was born on the 10th October 1813. The most important operas he wrote when he was young were ‘’Nabucco’’ and ‘’Macbeth’’. When he was older, the most important operas he wrote were ‘’Requiem’’, ‘’Rigoletto’’, ‘’Trovatore’’ and ‘’Traviata’’.

  6. The greatest interpreters of the Italian Opera are Enrico Caruso and Luciano Pavarotti.

  7. ENRICO CARUSO • Enrico Caruso wasborn in Naples on the 25th February 1873. The mostfamoussongheinterrpretedwas ‘’O’ Sole mio’’. He is the first singer whomaderecordstoo.

  8. LUCIANO PAVAROTTI • Luciano Pavarotti was born in Modena on the 12th October 1935. The most famous aria he interrpreted was ‘’Nessun dorma’’ by Puccini.

THE BRIGANDAGE AGE • During the end of the XVIIIthcentury and the begenningof the XIXth, the phenomenonof the brigandage spread out in the South of Italy against the ItalianSavoy “conquest” of the South of Italy. Theseoutlawsstornglymanifestedtheirrage in theiranthems . The mostknown is ‘’Brigante se more’’ .
