LITHUANIA Move Together is a project of the EU 7th Framework Programme European Commission Plunge district is situated in the north west of Lithuania and it is the part of Telsiai County. Total number of inhabitants is 43 580 in Plunge district. In the countryside live 20 442 persons, in the Plunge town live 23 138 persons. By the density of population Plunge district does not differ from other districts of the country – approximately 40 residents per one square kilometre.

The district of Plungė has been considered an industrialarea for years.The main businesses in the district are: Move Together is a project of the EU 7th Framework Programme European Commission General description of the Municipality • Agriculture, forestry and fishery; • Food production; • Wood processing; • Linen production; • Various services: Wholesale and retail trade; Building and repairs; Countrytourism; Public catering cafés, bars); Haulage, logistics and storage.
Move Together is a project of the EU 7th Framework Programme European Commission Plungė district is rich in its cultural resources: libraries, recreation centres, museums. In the palace of the Oginskiai Samogitian Museum of Art, where foreign and local artists’ works are exhibited, functions. Plunge district has a large tourist development potential due to favorable natural conditions. Presently are developed various recreational forms to Žemaitija National Park: stationery recreation, camping, swimming, rowing, water tourism, fishing and scuba diving.
Why did the Municipality wish to undertake this project? Move Together is a project of the EU 7th Framework Programme European Commission • The lack of information about sustainable development; • The lack of citizens’ awareness of urban mobility problems and responsible behaviour; • Undeveloped bicycle infrastructure of the city. Move Together is a project of the EU 7th Framework Programme European Commission The Municipality of Plunge aims for these objectives: • To inform Plunge society about sustainable development (by using Move Together Exhibition’s posters, special booklets, and articles in local press); • To make citizens more aware of urban mobility problems and to change their behaviour; • To encourage citizens to use bicycles, go on foot instead of using a car; • To incite citizens to use their cars more economically; • To increase the popularity of public transport; • To call debates about problems which hamper the development of a sustainable urban mobility in Plunge Municipality and find ways how to solve those problems.
Move Together is a project of the EU 7th Framework Programme European Commission Tools: Aiming for thorough presentation of the project “Move Together”, there are plans to execute activities in four steps: • The arrangement of posters, booklets and stand for booklets; • The arrangement of exhibition; • The organization of the conference; • The promotion of the project.
Move Together is a project of the EU 7th Framework Programme European Commission • To translate to Lithuanian and print 12 posters. • To present all the information about the Move Together project and the fragments of the posters in special booklets (format – A5; size of edition 12 pages; language: Lithuanian, amount of edition – 2500 units). • To distribute for free the booklets in Plunge tourism and business information centre, main square and schools. Move Together is a project of the EU 7th Framework Programme European Commission Step 2: the Move Together exhibition It will take place in Plunge tourism and business information centre (Senamiestis sq. 5, Plunge), which is situated in the main square, where are intense flow of people. Move Together is a project of the EU 7th Framework Programme European Commission Step 3: the conference • Citizens will be familiarwith the information of the Move Together Exhibition and will have their own opinion about pointed up issues. • Delegates from the Municipality, local transport institution, youth organizations, local press and citizens will participate in the debates.
Move Together is a project of the EU 7th Framework Programme European Commission Step 4: promotion of the project • Three articles will be printed in the local press • Visibility to the event will be given through the websites www.plunge.lt, www.pvic.lt and notice boards in city centre, schools, shops. The project will be managed and implemented by Plunge tourism and business information centre, www.pvic.lt.
