  2. Definite articles • In English and Spanish, there are grammatical elements called articles. • There are definite and indefinite articles. • In English there is only 1 definite article, “the.”

  3. Definite articles • In English, there is 1 definite article. • In Spanish, there are 4 definite articles. • The articles have to agree in number (singular and plural) and gender (masculine and feminine) with the noun that the article is modifying.

  4. Definite article The – masculine and singular el el = the • el perro = the dog • el papel = the paper

  5. Definite article The – feminine and singular la la = the • la profesora = the teacher • la clase = the class

  6. Definite article The – masculine and plural los los = the • los perros = the dogs • los papeles = the papers

  7. Definite article The – feminine and plural las las = the • las profesoras = the teachers • las clases = the classes
