About HACUthe Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities HACU’s Mission: to promote the development of member colleges and universities; improve access to and the quality of post-secondary educational opportunities for Hispanic students; and to meet the needs of business, industry and government through the development and sharing of resources, information and expertise. 3 Categories of HACU Membership: • Hispanic-Serving Institutions • Associate Member Institutions • International Member Institutions • Currently, HACU has 253 members in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Latin America and Spain!(6/7/2000)
HISPANIC-SERVING INSTITUTIONS MEMBERS OF HACU An HSI Member of HACU is a dues-paid, non-profit, accredited college, university or system, where total Hispanic enrollment constitutes a minimum of 25 percent of the total enrollment, including full-time and part-time students whether at the undergraduate or graduate level or both. HSIs that are members of HACU are voting members of the Association. HSI members vote at the Annual Business meeting during the Annual Conference. HSIs have representation on HACU’s Governing Board. ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP An Associate Member of HACU is a dues-paid, non-profit, accredited college, university or system, where total Hispanic enrollment constitutes at least 10 percent of the total enrollment, or a minimum of 1,000 Hispanic students enrolled, including full-time and part-time students whether at the undergraduate or graduate level or both. Associate members elect regional representatives who can vote at the Annual Business meetings of the voting (HSI) membership. AMIs have Bi-Annual Meetings during the Annual Conference. HACU/EDUCAUSE/NSFAN-MSI Project • Participation Criteria • Commitment by the President/Chancellor to the project, and to funding or securing funding to implement the networking improvements desired by the institution. • Existence of a Chief Information Officer or single point of responsibility for at least the campus network and Internet connectivity. • Commitment to faculty and curriculum development to take advantage of the improved network infrastructure anticipated as a result of this project.
