What is the EMAC? • “...is a multicultural team of students and faculty members. EMAC and the Department of Ed. Psych. Are committed to increasing its minority graduate enrollment.”
Who Can Be An EMACer? • Any Graduate student from the Department of Educational Psychology and/or is interested and committed to multicultural issues. • Faculty and Staff from the Department of Educational Psychology
Leadership Team • Group of EMACers who: • Prepare meetings • Put together agenda • Organize activities • Represent EMAC • 1 or 2 year position • Co-Advisors
Brief History • Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee • Established in 1973 • A Group of Graduate Students from Counseling Psychology
Accomplishments • Martin Luther King Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Status of People of Color • A respected voice in the College of Education and Human Sciences and UNL • Well-respected in the Lincoln community
What Does EMAC Do for the Ed. Psych. Department? • Review applications for M.A. and Ph.D. Programs in Ed. Psych. • Interview applicants for faculty positions • Serve on faculty search committees • Provide social support for ethnic/minority graduate students
What Does EMAC Do for UNL? • Facilitate UNL’s Diversity Retreat • Review Comprehensive Diversity Plan for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln • Invite local and nationally recognized speakers
What Does EMAC Do for the Community? • Review assessment materials for different school districts • Volunteer at the Matt Talbot Kitchen • Serve as advocates
Other Activities... • Holiday Party in December • Annual EMAC Luncheon in April • EMAC BBQ in November • Reunion of Former EMACers and Current EMACers (pending).
Future of EMAC • Oral History Project and other research projects • Continue with commitment to Multicultural Issues • Recruitment and Retention • Become more visible in the community • Collaborate with other Student Organizations as well as faculty from Ed. Psych.
