A Bridge for NO REASON An Attack on Eastern Collin County
The Bridge Study • Collin County has already spent $367,000 to determine the “most feasible” bridge location. • The bridge won’t fix our traffic problems around Lavon Lake. It will waste money. • On a trip from Nevada to Parker, the $400,000,000 bridge would decrease commute distance less than one mile, and in some cases, increase it.
There is a Better Solution • Bridges cost, on average, ten times more to build per mile than roads. • That $400,000,000 + should be used to improve the roads that surround the lake instead. • Instead of a bridge, we could easily build ten times as much road improvements to existing roadways, and even some new roads.
Why do They Want a Bridge? • Collin County thinks it needs a bridge because they haven’t considered alternatives. • Land developers want to turn Lavon Lake into a cramped, bee hive of traffic and congestion. They hope the bridge will do that. • Many of the proposed bridge paths are VERY lucrative for a few key developers that donate to certain Collin County politicians.
Rights of the Private Citizen • Your property rights as a citizen are at stake here. They have no right to do this to us! • According to the 30 year incumbent County Commissioner, this bridge will most likely go TOLL to pay for its extreme cost. • That means that the government will take your land and hand it over to private companies, and those private companies will charge you to drive across land that was once yours.
This Bridge is Wrong • This bridge is being built for all the wrong reasons. • It’s often repeated that the bridge is for the coming population swell and traffic congestion in the east. • That’s flat out wrong. Take a look:
With our VOTE we can send the Commissioner’s Court a message! • Spend tax dollars where it will count most. • Build road improvements and other land based alternatives, instead of a costly bridge. Let’s keep Lavon Lake’s pristine serenity. • Serve the citizens, not a few “fat cat” land developers who wish to change our chosen way of life forever. You can protect yourself!
