1. Composting Makes 33% of Total Waste Evaporate • City waste is 47% biodegradable. • After composting, 70% evaporates as water vapor. • This means that 3 of every 10 dump trucks will no longer be needed.
2. Compost Harvest is 14% of Total Waste • The remaining 30% (of the 47% bio waste) becomes compost harvest. • This translates to about 14% of the total waste volume or 1.4 trucks for every 10 truckloads collected.
3. Factory Returnables Reduce Waste Volume by 28% • If the 46% non-bio waste is segregated at source, then about 60% of this can be sold thru junk shops. • This can reduce total waste by 3 out of every 10 dump trucks.
4. Only 25% “Residuals” Should Go Beyond Barangay • If MRF is in place, only 25% of total waste should go to final disposal facility. • We should need only 1 out of 4 trucks to transport residuals out of barangay.
5. Residual ManagementMade More Affordable • Lesser volume of residuals for final disposal will need: less space, less infrastructure, simpler technology, less expense to the LGU. • Even small LGUs can set up their facility.
6. Savings in truck hauling can be used for MRF system • City of Paranaque spends about P150M a year for hauling alone. • A mere 25% reduction thru ESWM = P37.5M • This can give P2.3M each to 16 barangays. • This is more than enough to jumpstart ESWM in every bgy.
7. Barangay Control of Collection Schedule • Use of small vehicles for collection makes it manageable, clean, silent and easy to maintain. • Barangay exercises control over schedule and collection scheme. • “Maaasahan si Kapitan.”
8. Efficient Recycling of Non-Bio Waste Creates Added Income • Basic redemption of factory returnables produce modest financial returns. • Income is spread to the people. • “Marami ang nakikinabang!”
9. ESWM Becomes a Business Proposition • There is profit in good waste management. • Private entities can participate; not only government. • There are many entry points for business resulting from good service.
10. Composting is the Beginning of Organic Agriculture • Compost is a “soil conditioner” needed to heal anemic farmland. • Healthy soil breeds antibodies to repel pests. • Healthy soil becomes food source for the plants. • Continued use of organics reduces need for artificial fertilization.
11. Home Gardening Produces Organic Food • Composting produces abundant garden soil. • Backyard gardening becomes source of healthy food. • Indoor pot gardening becomes fashionable. • Organic food is accessible to all.
12. Organics Can Develop Organic Pesticides • Proper management of microorganisms can lead to development of organic pesticides or insect repellants. • This is a key to complete organic farming.
13. Disease Carriers Reduced • Less flies; • Less mosquitoes; • Less rats; • Less cockroaches; • Less diseases; • Less epidemics; • Less health victims; • Less medical bills!

18. Foundation for Eco-Tourism • ESWM is a major component of eco-tourism. • Reforestation, bio-remediation and coastal clean-ups follow. • “Iyan ang hinahanap ng mga turista!”
19. DAGDAG - BOTO! • A clean environment makes healthy people. • Healthy people are happy. • Happy people make a better community. • A better community makes a true barangay. • “Manghihinayang silang hindi ka iboto muli.” • “Bawas gastos sa kampanya.”
20. Idol Ko Si Kap! • “Totoo kang tao; hindi ka tra-po!” • “Mamahalin ka ng taong bayan.” • “Mahal ka lalo ng Diyos.” • You have contributed to a better world for the next generation.
