Innovation • Innovation occurs when learning and teaching is creative, pupils are challenged and learning outcomes are high • Teaching can be innovative without making new resources but using existing ones imaginatively when planning a lesson/series of lessons to suit the needs of a class • Innovation incorporates an unexpected event, makes the learner think and challenges their assumptions Innovative teaching is attainable by everyone

Key Messages • Secure subject knowledge and effective pedagogy lie at the heart of innovative teaching • This work must be embedded into whole school improvement to have a real impact on children’s learning • Embedding ICT begins with small steps and can be a challenging journey for some teachers • Subject leaders are responsible for supporting the use of ICT in their subject, working closely with ICT leaders • Adopting simple ICT resources, tools and approaches can support teachers who are starting their journey • Adapting these tools and resources is the next step and involves good questioning, modelling, interaction and assessment of pupils’ learning
