Thin Clients Management • Concept 1: Thin Client management SW must include two equally important components in order to have efficient and flexible management: • Control \ Management – Settings a specific configuration and forcing it on a specific device or a group of devices. • Monitoring – Know the status of each device or group of devices in real time or in the past.
Thin Client Management 2 • Concept 2: Any good management SW should integrate \ communicate with other management solutions on the customer’s network. • It will be much easier for an administrator to manage their thin client devices if their management SW will be able to communicate with other resources.
Thin Client Management 3 • Concept 3: Help desk functionality is a key component in achieving a stable yet flexible TC solution. • Help desk employee has limited permissions in most organizations compared Administrators.
New Components in Xcalibur Global 1.2 • VDI Connection Brokering – Assign Virtual desktop to devices and users using Chip PC thin client devices. • Session Desk – Shadow RDP or ICA session from the Xcalibur console • SMS 2003 Connector – Export asset management information from Xcalibur Global to SMS 2003 to create unified asset management reports.
VDI Connection brokering challenges/objectives • Use Xcalibur Global as the single connection brokering solution regardless of Virtual solution • Allow for flexibility while creating a unified solution • Enable advanced monitoring of VM usage and assignment • Ensure seamless transition from current solution to the organization’s end users
VDI Connection Brokering features • Assign Virtual Machine to a TC device or a User • Assign Virtual machine based on the organization AD structure or VMware Virtual Server • Allow both automatic or manual assignments • Control the lease duration of the VM
Session Desk Challenges and Objectives • Allow Xcalibur Global users to shadow TS & Citrix sessions from within the Xcalibur console • The users may not have the necessary credentials for shadowing • Xcalibur monitoring options were limited to events happening on the device
Session Desk features • View all available servers from within the Xcalibur console • View list of sessions on a per server bases • View list of open session from a specific device • Search for a session • Perform management tasks on session • Allow for pass through with cache credentials
