What we do? • Raising awareness about Whales and Dolphins (Cetacea) and the Ocean Environment. • This is done through research, expeditions and educational activities. • Study Humpback Whales on the Annual Research Expedition in Hervey Bay and observe, research, get an insight and gather new information presented on the dynamics, behaviour and social structures of the Whales • It’s aim... • ‘To engage the minds and hearts of people around the planet to become inspired about Cetacea, the Oceans and Marine Environment so that we can once again experience a clean Ocean Environment and a healthy and safe Marine Life’ - The Oceania Project, 2012.

Who we are • Established in 1988 • Non-for-profit research and information organisation • The founders of The Oceania Project are Wally and Trish • Franklin • Trish studies the social and ecological importance of • Hervey Bay for Humpback Whales • Wally studies the abundance, site-fidelity, residency and migratory interchange of humpback whales using Hervey Bay • The Oceania Project’s first Whale Research Expedition took place in 1989

Whale Research Expeditions In Hervey Bay: 1989-2013 Observe and study humpback whales in Hervey Bay. • 5 Research Programs: • Photo-Identification (gives data to determine the behaviour, social organisation and population dynamics) • Integration of Photo-identification & Genetic Data with Southern Cross University • Photo-Identification collaboration with members of the South Pacific Whale Research Consortium • DNA of Humpback Whale Faeces • A Whale Habitat Monitoring Program
