John Peter Zenger • Who was involved? • John Peter Zenger, Governor William Cosby, and James Alexander. • What happened? • John Peter Zenger was arrested and charged with seditious libel because he printed another man’s editorial that criticized William Cosby. • What was decided? • Zenger was founded not guilty because all of what he published was based on facts.
New York Times vs. Sullivan • Who was involved? • Martin Luther King Jr., New York Times, and L.B. Sullivan. • What happened? • An article was written soliciting funds from Martin Luther King Jr. It described actions against civil rights protestors and some of them were inaccurate. • What was decided? • The court decided that the evidence was insufficient to support a judgment for Sullivan.
Shirley Wraith vs. Jonathan & David Wraith • Who was involved? • Shirley Wraith, Jonathan Wraith, and David Wraith. • What happened? • Jonathan Wraith accused his mother of being abusive towards him physically and verbally after his parent’s divorce. • What was decided? • The court never reached a decision.
Un- Newsworthy • Something not worthy of being broadcasted here at school is our current locker problems. Even though this is a problem everyone already knows about it so there would be no need to broadcast it and make a big deal about it.
