Background: Proposal submitted on 30 August 2006 based on the UN GAID call for proposals on Communities of ExpertiseThe proposal was approved by UN GAID on Mid of December 2006 The first version of the e-SDDC implementation plan for 2007 was submitted to UN GAID on 18 January 2007The first version of the e-SDDC implementation plan was discussed and approved at the UN GAID Strategy Council Meeting from 27-28 in Santa Clara, California, USA title
e-SDDC Mission: Bridging research, education, and policy on scientific data in developing countries under the UN GAID framework, and creating a forum or platform for dialogue for all stakeholders to: (1) identify and evaluate different mechanisms and policies for promoting greater access to and use of digital S&T resources for meeting the needs of developing countries in policy reform in scientific data management and applications; and (2) help build a distributed and decentralized network of networks in scientific data and information resources for innovative research, sustainable development, and better life in the developing world. title
Goals for the Longer Term: To bridge scientific research, education, and policy decision making in order to find tailored solutions for problems faced in developing countries; to enhance the potential advantages of ICTs in their critical accelerator role for the applications of scientific data and information for socioeconomic development and scientific innovation; and to apply these digital resources to the UN Millennium Development Goals in developing countries. title
