Mu Alpha Theta Welcome to Algebra II !
What is MAO? • Mu Alpha Theta is the national high school math honor society. FAMAT is the Florida Association of Mu Alpha Theta, and it sponsors regional and statewide competitions, in addition to a yearly State Convention. We also have a national convention every year. • The divisions are: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-calculus, Stats, and Calculus. • There are two types of competitions: statewide and regionals.
What do you do at a competition? • You will be required to take a 60 minute test that consists of 30 questions. • If you were selected to be on the Algebra II Team, you will also participate in the team round. During team round, you will have 4 minutes to solve a question with your teammates. Points are awarded based on what minute you turn your answer in.
www.hhsmao.com • This is our new Hillsborough mao website. • We have a point system this year. You can receive points for attending practices, going to competitions, taking practice tests, etc. • You must earn 35 points to qualify to go to states. • Announcements can also be found on our facebook page (HHS Mu Alpha Theta)
When do competitions start? • Competitions start in the second semester, but you will definitely have to start preparing now if you wish to be competitive. • We also have in-school tests, such as Math League and Log 1, throughout the school year • The AMC 10/12 will also be held in our school (February-ish). This nation-wide rigorous test is challenging, and if you do well, you could qualify for the *extremely extremely difficult* AIME (another test).
