Planting Information • Plant about 1/4 inch deep, in flats or small pots using sterile seed starting material. • Water lightly and keep consistently moist until germination occurs. If the seeds dry out, they will die. • You can cover the pots with a plastic bag to help maintain the soil moisture (but remove bag when the plant appears.) • Tomato fruits can take a few days to a few weeks to ripen on the vine.
Necessities for the plant • Full light, and cooler temp. • Transplant tomato plants once they have sprouted their 2nd or 3rd pair of true leaves. (Use 4 inch pots.) • Over watering may help to produce larger fruit, but flavor may be reduced. • Harvest ripe tomatoes promptly to encourage further flowering and fruiting. Cut fully red, firm fruits from the vine with small shears or a clean knife. Pulling on the fruits to harvest may break the tomato stem and damage the plant.
Things to watch out for • Avoid giving tomato plants to much Nitrogen. • Splitting and cracking can result from uneven and excessive watering.
