  4. Complex adaptive systems are special cases of complex systems. They are complex in that they are dynamic networks of interactions and relationships not aggregations of static entities. They are adaptive in that their individual and collective behaviour changes as a result of experience

  15. Throughout February and March 2010 all 152 local authorities were contacted to gain information about their CEIAG quality award provision. Information was received from (or on behalf of) 94% of local authorities. LA Reponses included: Returned survey Telephone call Meeting in person Email communication Quality award sent information on LA’s behalf. Process

  17. To introduce a national kite mark across all CEIAG quality awards To develop participation in CEIAG quality awards for Work-Based Learning Providers To provide synergy of CEIAG quality award provision with the system for the National Careers Service Recommendations from my Research

  18. Evidence related to 3 main areas: Award criteria, content and coverage (8 key requirements) Assessment processes for the Award (5 key requirements) Management of the CEIAG Award (3 key requirements) Requirements of the Validation

Providing effective leadership, management and delivery Appropriate initial staff training and CPD Provision of careers education and work-related learning curriculum information advice and guidance Securing independence and impartial careers guidance Working with external partners and agencies Involving and supporting families and carers Monitoring, review and evaluation leading to development of provision Evidence Required: Award Criteria, Content and Coverage

  20. Effective evidence gathering system – objective external assessment Sufficient and valid evidence Explicit criteria detailing what is expected of learning providers Written assessment report Appeals and complaints procedure Assessment Process for the Award

  21. Consultation and validation of the award Selection, training, development and moderation of assessors Support offered by the provider of the award to learning providers seeking to achieve it Management of the Award

A good CEIAG programme will: Raises awareness of the labour market – local, national and international Promote equality of opportunity and challenge stereotypes Prepare students to manage transitions – 10 14 jobs by 38 – no such things as a career for life Equip them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to apply, enter and progress in employment How does it address 21stcentury learning needs?

No national evidence as yet Local NEET figures are significantly better for schools holding a CEIAG quality award, compared to those who don’t “There is clear systematic evidence that school pupils with career goals have higher attainment levels than those without” Exec summary 2004 report, Career goals and educational Attainment Careers Scotland. Do you have any evidence of impact?

  25. Completely – it can be adapted to meet the needs of CEIAG within a province or nationally How transferable is this to other settings?

  26. CEIAG quality award used throughout Lincolnshire and the East Midlands Consists of 5 modules – management, curriculum, guidance, information and outcomes. Will submit for “national validation” for the Quality in Careers Framework Career Mark
