Background • Summer 2012 • Meeting with Director of Health Disparities, Utah Department of Health • Joint collaboration on community outreach and providing access to health care for underserved population • Latinos, Pacific Islanders and American Indians • Low socio-economic status • Loss of funding 2010-2011
Opportunity • To serve and give back to a community that needs health care and education • Inter-Professional Education :for all of Health Sciences to work together as one in the service and education of the community • For all health professionals to learn about cultural competency as we experience treating patients from a diverse background.
Purpose • To provide health care to the midvale community, with strong need for family practitioners, internists, pediatricians and mental health professionals • Long term goal : Midvale Clinic will serve as the flagship for the University of Utah Health Sciences in community service, inter-professional education and cultural competency
